Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Koh-samui-Lamai

Koh Samui is an Island to the East of the Phuket Island. Not many Air Carriers fly direct to Koh Samui but you can get flights to Surat Thani and then board a Ferry to complete the journey. Koh Samui is a busy Island for Tourists and one of the biggest attractions is the Full Moon Party which is not actually on Koh Samui but on Koh Phangan Island. Many tourists will stay in Koh Samui and ferry it over to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party itself.

The two main areas for tourists in Koh Samui are Chaweng and Lamai Beach. Chaweng Beach is very close to the Airport and is where most of the nightlife is situated, which normally attracts the younger crowd. You will find open air bars, beer bars Nightclubs, Cocktail bars and even the odd Go-Go Bar along the famous Green Mango Strip of which the town revolves around. Soi Reggae is the other nightlife spot in in Chaweng and it si also home to some of Koh Samui’s best Muay Thai events.   Chaweng beach offers a great selection of Restaurants, Hotels, Beachside resorts and shopping.  The beach here can get quiet rocky in areas but is still swimmable but if you are looking for a swimming beach Lamai Beach may be a better option for you.

Lamai Beach is located a few kilometres south of Chaweng beach and is a lot quieter location but still with the option of the nightlife, great hotels, shopping and home to Coco Splash Adventure and Water Park. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back and even cheaper than the busy Chaweng Beach. Lamai beach it is considered as the most beautiful beach on the Island with many tourists coming to bath the day away every year.

Koh Phangan is a small Island to the north of Koh Samui. To get to Koh Phangan you will be required to catch a ferry to the Island from Surat Thani or Koh Samui as there is no airport on the island. Haad Rin is the main tourist area on the island but most ferries will drop off at Thong Sala beach, about a 30 minute taxi ride from Haad Rin. Haad Rin is home to the famous Full Moon Party which is held once a month at the peak of the Full Moon. With drinking, dancing, fluorescent paint, fire swinging and music, this is the ultimate for all party goers.

With many  people travelling to the island for these parties it is very important to book your hotels early if you would like a place to stay on the lead up to the Parties. There is a catch when it comes to accommodation though.. During Full Moon Party periods you will be required to book for a minimum amount of time (normally 3-5 nights).  On the lead up to the parties  you will find that smaller parties or events will run during this time.
