Bangkok Airport Link and BTS

One of the fastest, cheapest, easiest ways to get around Bangkok is via it’s skytrain system.

The Skytrain system consist of the BTS (Bangkok mass Transit System) throughout the inner city while the Airport link provides a quick stress-free trip from Survarnabumi Airport to Bangkok city.

2 BTS Skytrains


Airport Link

The Airport Link runs 3 different lines. The Express line to Phaya Thai, The Express line to Makkasan and the City Line stopping at 7 stations between The Airport Link SkytrainSurvarnabhumi International Airport and Phaya Thai in Bangkok City.

The Express Line Skytrain to Phaya Thai leaves the airport every 30 minutes and arriving at Phaya Thai Station in 17 Minutes between 6:00am and Midnight. Phaya Thai Station intersects with the BTS Sukhumvit line, this trip with cost you 150B each way

The Express Line Skytrain to Makkasan leaves the airport every 40 minutes and arriving at Makkasan Station in 14 minutes between 6:35: and 11:55pm. Makkasan Station intersects with the MRT(underground Train System), this trip with cost you 150B each way.

The City Line Skytrain leave the airport every 15 or 20 minutes and arrives at Phaya Thai in 25 – 30 minutes between 6:02am and 11:51pm stopping at, Lat Krabang, Ban Thap Chang, Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng, Makkasan, and Ratchaprarop stations along the way. A trip of the length of the line will cost you 45B each way.

BTS

The BTS runs along two lines, the Sukhumvit line and the Silom line. Both these lines will intersect at Siam Station where you can switch from line to line. Time between trains range from less than 4 minutes during peak times and up to 8 minutes after 10pm so there is always another train just around the corner. Trains will run from 5:30am to 12:25am, 7 days a week from Siam Station. BTS Skytrain at National StadiumThese Skytrains give a very smooth ride, well air-conditioned but can get very full in the Peak periods. It is a great way to miss all of the traffic of the Bangkok streets and save money in Taxi’s at the same time.

For tourists the main stations you will use would be Siam and National Stadium on the Silom line and Nana and Asoke on the Sukhumvit line. For more information on which Stations to use Click here

Ticketing is very easy for the BTS. At every station you either have a maned kiosk or a self-serve terminal. You can buy prepaid SmartPass but you will most likely only need to use a Single Journey Pass or a day pass. A Single Journey Ticket will cost between 15 and 42B, where a One-Day Pass will cost you 130B for unlimited use for the day.
