Dental work in Thailand

thailand dental

In recent times Thailand has become very popular for tourists travelling to have extensive dental work done at a fraction of the price you would pay back home. There are many options and treatments available for the tourist who would like to get some dental work while away. From a filling to a full set of new teeth it can be done.  There are many Thailand dental surgeries that will offer a package which could include flights, accommodation and the dental work itself but in my opinion you will be better off financially organising it all yourself. Popular locations like Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Koh Samui will all have tourist-friendly, English speaking surgeries that will be able to provide a service that will be second to none.

Is it safe to get dental work in Thailand?

This is the most asked question by anyone looking at the possibility of having some work done in Thailand. The answer is YES. But it can very easily turn into a bad experience if you do not do your research before you travel. There are many surgeries throughout Thailand but not all are safe. As a general rule if they have a website they are catering for tourists and will give a great service. Like any holiday, if you are planning to travel Thailand to have dental work done you will need to research. Look at TripAdvisor for reviews, search Google for personal experiences, and browse through the many surgeries to choose from. Do not go to Thailand unprepared and walk into the first shop you see down a small ally with a non-English speaking “Dentist”. There is a good chance the prices will be cheaper than everywhere else but there is also a chance that the “Dentist” is not an actually dentist and you may end up worse off than before you had the treatment. There are many “backyard” clinics that will tell you they are clean and cheaper than everyone else but is it worth the risk?

In Thailand word of mouth and face value are very important, so if a surgery is catering for tourists they will do everything they can to keep you happy in the hope you will tell friends of the great service and treatment. In saying that you will find all equipment has be sanitized and often within eyesight for your personal reassurance. Although the prices are a lot lower then what you would pay back home you will often get a lot better quality treatments.

So things you will need to look at before travelling are; what treatment do you require? How long will you need at the surgery? Where is the Dental Surgery? How much will it cost? etc… It is recommended that you send an email surgery you are looking to go to and find out how many nights you will be required to stay. For example to have a Root Canal treatment and crown made up and fitted you will need to be in the area around 10 days. This will also help you in deciding what location is for you. As you can plan what to do on your days off, if you are travelling with a family you may opt to have the treatments in Phuket or Chiang Mai as opposed to Pattaya or Bangkok.

When looking into Dental treatment in Thailand take into consideration that although the prices are cheap, you will have to consider flight prices, accommodation and treatment prices. It can still work out much cheaper but if you have Private Health Insurance it may work out better off back home. Also consider that if something goes wrong once you are back home that it is not as easy as jumping in the car and driving around the corner to have it fixed (a dentist back home will not do the repairs for you). But in saying that you can get good, cheap dental and a holiday at the same time and I would personally prefer the Thailand holiday option.

Please make sure you do your research before you go. There is so much available on the internet on this growing trend. Beware your current dentist will tell you not to get dental treatment in Thailand, but of course they will as they would be losing money. Keep an eye out for specials on the clinics website. Some will have sales throughout Low season (May – October) as they will not be as busy during these times.

Hi, my name is Kasia Maskowska, and I’m a former dental nurse. I’m from Italy, but I moved to USA. I’ve worked alongside 6 different dental practitioners during my 17 years in the industry, and I’ve seen more than 2500 teeth whitening procedures first-hand and up-close – and believe me, it hasn’t been pretty to watch 😉 Lot’s of teeth whitening processes destroy tooth enamel strongly. If I had the possibility to recommend something to make your teeth whiter, I would recommend this http://tinyurl.com/n3wmagw . You can easily make your teeth whiter naturally. This is one of the very few methods known among dentists, which have a positive opinion. I’ve never tried it, but if you are looking for something like this, you can try it. It costs normal price, but here you are buying it once, and you are paying for the whole treatment, not for single session

Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform
are you using for this website? I’m getting sick and tired of WordPress because I’ve had issues
with hackers and I’m looking at options for another
platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good
    platform.
